Ravi Bhushan, who hails from Ghaziabad, was among the first of 75 Indian nationals who managed to be evacuated from Syria after being trapped in the conflict zone. Sharing his ordeal, Bhushan appreciated the Indian government for their relentless effort to bring back trapped Indians in Syria due to violence.
While speaking to a news agency, Bhushan pointed out that the Indian embassy was very much involved in the process of the rescue operation. “The Indian government started its operation to rescue people and we won the race to be the first ones to be airlifted. The icing on the cake was that the embassy did go around trying to reach everyone to see how they were and if they needed help. In addition, they were even encouraging us throughout the whole process,” he said.
Bhushan also commended the Syrian embassy for being in touch and insisting on informing him of every situation on the rescue mission. “They were messaging us hourly, updating us about the plans and the measures being endorsed to get us back safely. Any time anyone had any problems, whether it was with food or anything else, the embassy made sure it got settled at once.” Further, he said, “We are very much grateful to the Indian government and the Indian Lebanese and Syrian embassies.”
Reminiscing the pathetic situation in Syria, Bhushan has drawn a parallel to what the Indian nationals are going through to the ordeal of other neighbours in the region. “We saw how others from other countries were suffering. The small children and women were taken out in open spaces and they were exposed to extreme cold condensation that was 4-5 degrees under freezing temperatures and they were forced to sit down for 10- 12 hours. It was heart-wrenching. We did not face such adversities as thanks again to the Indian government,” he pointed out.
Syrian unrest reached a new phase on November 27 during the attack on the capital by Syrian rebels known as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and seizing power from President Bashar al-Assad. In this confusion, it was the Indian government that acted promptly enough to guarantee people’s safety.
