Raipur: Security forces in Abujhmaad jungles conducted a joint operation on Thursday; at least seven persons identified as Maoists by officials were gunned down. The operation was carried out by the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), which acted on information received about Maoist movements in the area.

Ironically, a police officer disclosed that the ‘search operation’ started around 3 a.m. Thursday, with sporadic gun battles between the government forces and the Maoists. As the operation continued, the security forces participated in fierce firefights with the Maoists in and around the Abujhmaad forests, which included steep hills and forests and was an area Maoists operated from frequently.

Bastar police later officially released the information that the bodies of seven Maoists dressed in police uniform were found in the operation theatre. The act of recovering these bodies was, however, followed by several encounters between the two parties. The police further called to assert that the crackdown was still ongoing, with search parties in the areas hunting for more insurgents and to secure the forces.

Authorities stated further that the meeting was a part of anti-Maoist operations in the region that have witnessed slight militancy in the last several months. Security forces are still carrying out operations to try and eliminate Maoists in the forest regions, no matter how steeped the decisions and despite opposition from the rebels.

The joint operation gives an expression of the efforts by security forces to counter Maoists in Bastar and the other regions of Chhattisgarh, where Maoists often carry out insurgent operations. More details may be made in the course of the operation because the scene is still tense.
