Bhopal: To increase women’s leadership for the BJP at the district level in Madhya Pradesh, the Madhya Pradesh BJP is gradually trying harder. The party’s organizational elections and recent state-level and divisional meetings have brought this initiative into focus. Sources suggest that the BJP National Vice President, Saroj Pandey, was exercising observership in the selection process and focused more on the representation of women in the selection process of the district presidents.
Some of the important deliberations were held at the state level through a meeting of the district observer held at Bhopal. Sub-divisional meetings for divisional offices were organized in Indore, Shivpuri, Jabalpur and other taluka headquarters. Saroj Pandey engaged herself in these meetings, the issue of urging women leaders to occupy key positions as voted by the organizations. Her call for women’s leadership is in harmony with BJP’s policy pillar that supports inclusiveness and diversity.
BJP State President VD Sharma has also pressed the need to ensure the proper representation of women in the party. This is at a time when the party is preparing to organise elections for 1300 Mandal presidents by December 15 and 60 district presidents by December 31.
At the moment, one woman district president in Madhya Pradesh is Vaishali Mahale, who is from Pandhurna. But it has been said the party plans to nominate women leaders in at least half a dozen places. It is still under consideration as to who among the females is the right candidate for those top responsibilities.
To increase the representation of women in politics, the BJP will serve to enhance its organisational structure. Along with this, the issue of gender parity will also be tackled. The calls and pressure for women’s leadership are therefore viewed as a way of rallying women’s votes and promoting gender equality within the leadership wing of the party. In fact, all these attempts signify the BJP’s overall strategic plan to empower women to aspire and emerge as leaders both at the grass root as well as the higher tiers of the party.
