The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall with thunderstorms in parts of southern India, particularly Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, over the coming days. A low-pressure area is expected to develop in the Bay of Bengal on Saturday, December 7, and is likely to move west-northwestwards, reaching the southwest Bay of Bengal near Sri Lanka by December 12.

This system is anticipated to bring rain to Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on December 11 and 12, and to Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema on December 12.

Chennai Braces for Weather Changes For residents of Chennai and its neighboring locales, the forecast predicts partly cloudy skies over the next 24 hours, with potential light fog in the morning. As the day progresses, there’s a chance of light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, primarily during the evening or nighttime. Temperature-wise, the city can expect daytime highs of 31-32 degrees Celsius, while nighttime lows are likely to hover around 25 degrees.

Caution for Coastal Fishermen In light of these predictions, the IMD has issued a caution for fishermen operating in the southern regions of the Southeast Bay of Bengal. They are warned of cyclonic winds, reaching speeds between 35-45 km/h, and gusting up to 55 km/h. Fishermen are strongly advised against venturing into these turbulent waters on December 7, underlining the potential risks posed by the evolving weather conditions.
