Mata Vaishno Devi: The sale of non-veg and liquor has been banned on the Mata Vaishno Devi route, one of the main centers of faith for Hindus. This ban has been imposed on the 12-km route from Vaishno Devi’s base camp Katra to Trikuta Hill. Katra Magistrate Piyush Dhotra said that apart from selling eggs, chicken, mutton, seafood and liquor, food has also been banned. Strict action will be taken against those violating this order. Officials gave this information on Wednesday.

Every year lakhs of devotees from Katra climb the 12 km long Trikuta mountain to worship Vaishno Devi. They visit the holy cave of Mata Rani situated on the mountain and take the benefit of her darshan. Officials said the ban will be in force along the 12-km route from Katra to the holy cave on Trikuta hill and in surrounding areas.

They further said the order will be in force for two months from the date of its issuance. Katra sub-divisional magistrate Piyush Dhotra has imposed a ban on the sale, possession and consumption of alcohol and non-vegetarian food, including eggs, chicken, mutton and seafood, in Katra and surrounding areas under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Defence Code, officials said.
