The full name of the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra will be declared on Wednesday, December 4, on the eve of the oath-taking of the Mahayuti government, said a senior BJP leader. The announcement will come after the legislature party of BJP has met to decide on the leader.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman receives the BJP President’s appointment to be the central observer for the Maharashtra legislature party meeting, as does Vijay Rupani, the former Gujarat Chief Minister. These observers will sit with BJP MLAs in Mumbai on December 4 to decide on the leader. The selected name will then be taken to the authorities in Delhi before it is made public.
The observers will complete the consultations with the elected representatives to establish the ultimate name and declare the next chief minister, a BJP functionary said to a news agency.
The state BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule had earlier announced that the oath-taking ceremony of the Mahayuti government will be on 5th December at Azad Maidan with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s grace. There is actually no confirmation regarding this news, but according to some source, the name finalized for CM is Devendra Fadnavis.
Caretaker Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde said he fully endorses the BJP’s move. Speaking to reporters, Shinde said that he and his party, a faction of the Shiv Sena, will accept the BJP decision on the post of chief minister and said that he will not go against the decision.
The newly formed Mahayuti alliance government is also likely to have deputy chief ministers from its alliances, wherein a seat of deputy chief ministers is likely to be grabbed by both Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). By this line of power-sharing mechanism, the leadership of the new government is to accommodate representatives of all the major alliance partners.
