Media person and wife of Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, Navjot Kaur Sidhu, has received an ₹850 crore notice from the Chhattisgarh Civil Society (CCS) for her husband’s statements about the cancer-curing procedure. The notice arose from remarks made by Navjot Singh Sidhu claiming that other treatments made his wife get well from stage four terminal cancer after the doctors said that she had only forty days to live.

The convenor of CCS, Dr Kuldeep Solanki, said that such claims were dangerous as those who believe in these claims might stop their allopathic treatment, which means lives are at risk. Solanki has asked Navjot Kaur to come out with proof of the allegations within a week; otherwise, she will be charged. He insisted that “misinformation” about cancer treatments could harm patients further; if she cannot provide evidence, he told her to come out in the open and hold a press conference.

Navjot Singh Sidhu, in a press conference on November 21, equated cancer with ‘inflammation’, that is ‘brought about by’ milk, wheat, refined flour and sugar. He said that eradicating such items from the diet, it would deny the cancer cells food to feed. “If you do not eat any sugar and carbohydrates, then the cancer cells die automatically,” he said, attributing all his wife’s successful stories to the diet.

The said claims led to a barrage of criticism from different healthcare practitioners, including 262 oncologists of Tata Memorial Hospital. On X (formerly Twitter), hospital director Dr. C.S. Pramesh refuted the insufficient high-quality scientific evidence allegations. Such information disputes the veracity of effective medical procedures that would be detrimental to humanity, he said.

The CCS has once again called for clarity mentioning that any discrepancies could have awful impacts on the general citizens. It is for this reason that the debate perseveres, getting people to focus on the inclusion of other types of treatment for cancer.
