Kanker: Mahala village in Partapur area, which is considered to be the most Naxal-affected area of the district, has once again become vibrant. There was once so much terror of Naxalites here that the entire village was empty. The villagers had left their homes, fields and everything, they just wanted to live, but then the police opened a camp here and pushed the Naxalites on the back foot. Slowly the villagers have started returning to their homes. Our Kanker correspondent Sushil Salam has taken stock of the village.

It was in 2010, when Naxalites killed two people including the village sarpanch. After this, the villagers migrated to Pakhanjur overnight. The entire village was deserted. Later, the police opened a BSF camp here in 2018, after which the Naxalites harmed the soldiers several times. 6 soldiers were also martyred, but the soldiers took rest only after driving away the Naxalites from the area and now prosperity has returned to this village.

Villagers say that around 2008, there was so much terror of Naxalites that people were afraid to come out of their houses even during the day. Naxalite leaders Prabhakar, Bopanna lived in this area with their team. Naxalites used to come to the village anytime. They used to put pressure on every house to send one child to the Naxalite organization.

The entire village was empty due to the increasing atrocities of Naxalites. Then 10 years later, the police set up a camp in Mahala village with the help of BSF, due to which the Naxalites got agitated and attacked the camp twice, but the soldiers were successful in driving them away. In April 2019, Naxalites attacked the soldiers engaged in the security of road construction, in which 4 soldiers were martyred. Even after this, the soldiers did not lose courage and took rest only after driving the Naxalites out of the area. Now there is no presence of Naxalites in this area at all. The villagers are happy that now they are able to breathe in the open air.
