A disabled Indian boy named Prithvi Sengupta has just made India proud by bagging a bronze medal in the recently concluded World Open Equipped Powerlifting Championship in Iceland that was held from November 10 to 16. This powerlifting competition is one of the most professional events hosted by the International Powerlifting Federation, where his sheer willpower came into the ore while he performed in the special class under the 66kg sub-group.
Niyateey Shah, mother of Prithvi, shared the story of achievement with Prithvi’s coach, Aman Rai Vohra. Shah, a single mother who has been taking care of Prithvi with the help of her parents since he was four, shared how he started. The lure of weightlifting was first observed by the family when he developed a special interest in weights when visiting a gymnasium. They encouraged him and helped him develop his talent, for which he has been rewarded in international societies.
A triumphant example of Prithvi, growing from his win in Iceland and rising to the challenge of the World Open Championship, is ranked as one of the toughest competitions in Strikerut. Unlike any other event, it has competitors from different categories, and therefore, its victory stands out as being more special. This bronze medal is complemented by other achievements of the gymnast, such as gold medals in the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games, proving he is one of the outstanding athletes.
However, his progress has not been smooth. It can be noted that Prithvi had one disability during his childhood, which explains the various barriers he encountered within society, besides other challenges he experienced in his daily life. But his mother supported him, and he was very persistent in being successful again. Instead of saying that he is bestowed as a special child, Shah proudly referred to him as a special achiever.
Prithvi’s s story gives the best description of triumphing over odds and changing the world’s outlook on what is possible with desire and grit.
