Chhindwara: Looking at the Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh, there was a sighting of a leopard, and an attack by a tiger led to the frightening of residents. In one case, a leopard was sighted on a city road, while at the other extreme, a tiger killed a bull at Chaurai. These two cases were immediately reported to the forest department, and officials arrived at the specified areas and issued a warning to the public.
The flora and fauna need no introduction as Chhindwara has moderate to high forest density of vegetation. But those animals have again encroached into the area both in the urban and rural settings, causing some kind of stir among the people. The first one took place on Wednesday evening near the Poama area, where a leopard was caught sitting straight on the road in front of the Commercial Research Center. Frightened by the sight, local people reported the matter to the forest department without any delay.
The same day in the morning, a tiger fatally exercised its dominance on a bull confined to a field in Sagar village of the Chaurai range of Sawai Madhopur. The horns of the bull got in its way during the attack, but the tiger left the scene after probably being frightened by the shouts from a group of villagers and the owner of the bull. The officials of the forest came immediately, conducted the patrolling, and sounded an alarm to protect the people.
These events present the increased human-animal contact that is characteristic of Chhindwara, a district with relatively high levels of biological diversity. Though the forest officials have stepped up patrolling, they have also asked the people of the area to stay alert and report any presence of wild animals in the vicinity. The department has also urged people not to go into the wooded areas and is also encouraging people to protect their animals from the disease.
