Mumbai: Many celebrities were spotted visiting voting booths on Wednesday as the Maharashtra Assembly elections began. A number of images and videos featuring Rajkummar Rao, Kabir Khan, Farhan Akhtar, Sachin Tendulkar, and Akshay Kumar, among others, emerged on social media.

In Mumbai, Sachin Tendulkar, his wife Anjali, and their daughter Sara went to the polling station and cast their votes. The trio showed their inked fingers to the media. “I have been an icon of the ECI (Election Commission of India) for quite some time now. The message I am giving is to turn up and vote. It is our responsibility. I hope people will take that effort and come and vote. I urge everyone to come and vote.”

After casting his vote in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly Elections, actor Akshay Kumar showed his inked finger. Speaking to the media, Akshay Kumar urged everyone to cast their ballots. Lauding the arrangements made at the polling booth, Mr. Kumar said, “The arrangements for senior citizens are great. Cleanliness has been maintained. I want everyone to come out and cast their votes.”

Rajkummar Rao casts his vote at Gyan Kendra Secondary School, a polling booth in Mumbai. He urged citizens to do the “important” task – vote. “It is our right in a democracy, so it’s important that we step outside and vote. I have performed my duty. It is your turn now. Please vote,” actor Rajkummar Rao said while speaking to the media.

“It is the responsibility of every citizen to go out and vote. It’s very important for the country. Don’t celebrate it as a holiday. Go and vote,” said actor Sonu Sood after he cast his vote.

At a Latur polling booth, Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza, an actor couple, cast their votes. In an interview with the media, actor Deshmukh expressed his belief that Maha Vikas Aghadi would win the Maharashtra assembly elections. Additionally, musician Vishal Dadlani appealed people to come out their houses and cast votes. “This is your state, your country. If there is love for the state and country, please come and cast your votes.”

Actors Ali Fazal and John Abraham, filmmaker and actor Farhan Akhtar, and film directors Kabir Khan and Zoya Akhtar all came out early to cast their votes and fulfill their duties.

Maharashtra assembly elections are being held in a single phase, with voting starting at 7 am and ending at 6 pm. There are 288 assembly constituencies that are holding polls. A total of 4,136 candidates are contesting the elections, including 2,086 independents.
