IPL 2025 Mega Auction: The IPL 2025 auction is going to be held on 24 and 25 November in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for which all cricket fans are very excited. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant, who led the Delhi Capitals last season, has broken his silence over not being retained by Delhi Capitals, which is being discussed a lot.
During a show on a local sports channel, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was explaining the reason behind Delhi not retaining its captain before the mega auction of IPL 2025. Its video was shared on the social media platform X. On this video, without naming Delhi Capitals, Pant said that ‘I can definitely say that my retention was not about money’.
What did Gavaskar say?
Veteran cricketer Gavaskar said- I think Delhi Capitals would like Rishabh Pant back in their team. Sometimes, when a player has to be retained, there is a negotiation between the franchise and the players regarding the fees as expected. As some of the players who have been retained by their franchise, number 1 they demanded a higher retention fee. So clearly I think there may be some disagreement there, but I think Delhi would like Rishabh Pant back.
Rishabh’s base price is Rs 2 crore
It is worth noting that Rishabh Pant was associated with Delhi Capitals since IPL 2016. But this time he has decided to enter the auction. Pant’s base price in IPL is Rs 2 crore. In such a situation, many teams can bet on him.
Delhi retained these players
“As you can see some of the players who have been retained by their franchises. They have gone for more than say what the number one retention fee deduction would be, so clearly, I think maybe there was some disagreement over there, but my feeling is that Delhi would definitely want Rishabh Pant back”, said Sunil Gavaskar in his viral interview.
Before the IPL mega auction, Delhi Capitals had retained four players. Among them, Akshar Patel was retained for Rs 16.5 crore, Kuldeep Yadav for Rs 13.5 crore, South African star all-rounder Tristan Stubbs for Rs 10 crore and uncapped wicketkeeper Abhishek Porel for Rs 4 crore.
