Four unknown persons have been booked for the attack on the NCP leader and the former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.
In Nagpur on Monday evening, stones were pelted at his car, and the latter got a blow to his head. Deshmukh was first admitted to Katol Civil Hospital for treatment, after which he was transferred to another private hospital.
The attack took place at about 8 p.m. when Deshmukh was on his way to Katol after attending a meeting in Narkhed village. It happened in the last phase of campaigning for the Maharashtra assembly polls, which are due to be held on November 20. The NCP faction led by Sharadchandra Pawar has sought a high-level probe into the incident, describing it as a serious attack on democracies.
Speaking to Nagpur Rural Superintendent of Police also elaborative who said and assured that this incident is not looked into lightly. A technical team has paid a visit to the site to pick up the physical evidence and the case has been transferred to the Deputy SP of Katol. The same authorities have urged the public to disregard any rumour and wait for the results of the investigation.
Raising the political heat in the case, Salil Deshmukh, son of Anil Deshmukh, arrested in connection with the case, is contesting the Katol assembly constituency on an NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) ticket. The political competition gets a boost in the region, with BJP candidate Charansingh Thakur posing a serious threat to Congress prospects in the form of Salil Deshmukh.
It has elicited a lot of outcry, incensing the need for justice and protection of personalities and persons in the public domain. During the investigation, all the people wait for the actions of the authorities and expect prompt justice to be served and such types of violence not to be repeated again.
