New Delhi: A significant blow has been dealt to the AAP ahead of the February 2019 Delhi Assembly elections. The Delhi government’s cabinet minister, Kailash Gehlot, has resigned from his position and party. He sent a letter to national convenor Arvind Kejriwal. Mentioning Yamuna and ‘Sheeshmahal’ in the letter, implicating former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Kailash Gehlot wrote, “As a result of many embarrassing and awkward controversies like ‘Sheeshmahal’ which are now making everyone doubt whether we still believe in AAM AADMI. It is now obvious that if the Delhi administration spends the majority of its time fighiting with the center, there will be no real progress for Delhi. I am resigning from my primary membership in the Aam Aadmi Party because I find myself left with no option but to step away from AAP.”

He further wrote, “Arvind Kejriwal ji, I would like to first of all thank you sincerely for giving me the honor of serving and representing the people of Delhi as an MLA and a minister. However, at the same time, I also want to share with you that today the Aam Aadmi Party faces grave challenges. Challenges from within, to the very values that brought us together to AAP. Political ambitions have overtaken our commitment towards people, leaving many promises unfulfilled.”

Kailash Gehlot criticized the Aam Aadmi Party, claiming that the honest politics that led him to join the party is no longer happening. He made several allegations while describing Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence as “Sheeshmahal.” At the same time, he blamed the Delhi government for the growing pollution in Yamuna.

Kailash Gehlot also wrote that if we keep fighting with BJP, then there will be no real development. “We had promised to convert Yamuna into a clean river but were never able to do so. Now the Yamuna River has probably become more polluted than before. Another painful point has been that instead of fighting for the rights of the people, we are only fighting for our own political agenda. It is now clear that real development of Delhi cannot happen if the Delhi government spends most of its time fighting the Centre.”
