On its second day at the box office, Suriya’s Kanguva dropped to a mere Rs 9 crore after a strong opening of Rs 24 crore nett in India. While a slight drop was expected considering that it was a workday, the movie’s box office performance represented a roughly 50% decline from its first day’s figures, which the producers found concerning.

Kanguva, which was directed by Siva, got mixed reviews, and the loud music problem probably stopped Friday’s audience from going to the theaters. However, producer GE Gnaneval Raja told the media on November 15 that the producers have taken the necessary corrective measures.

Kanguva made Rs 24 crore on its opening day and went on to make only around Rs 9 crore on its first Friday. With this, the film’s total India box office collection reached Rs 33 crore, as per sources.

The biggest decline came from Tamil Nadu and Telugu states for Kanguva, which also stars Bobby Deol and Disha Patani. The movie witnessed a 50% decline in Tamil Nadu alone, where it made between Rs 4-4.50 crore on the second day, according to reports. Based on early estimates, the Telugu states had a similar drop, with the film earning between Rs 2.25-2.50 crore on Friday.

This film has earned around Rs 39 crore domestically in two days with a total net collection of Rs 33 crore. This has become a surprise. Now the producers of the film are planning to further increase the collection on Saturday and Sunday.

Given its marketing strategy and impressive budget, Kanguva was predicted to make at least Rs 100 crore nett in its first weekend. It will be interesting to see how the film manages to achieve that feat in two days now.
