On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent his best wishes to the nation on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, or Gurpurab. PM Modi stressed in his speech that millions of people are still motivated by Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings, which promote the virtues of kindness, humility, and compassion.
“Greetings on the auspicious occasion of Sri Guru Nanak Jayanti. May the teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji inspire us to further the spirit of compassion, kindness, and humility,” PM Modi wrote on X.
The founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak, was born in Nankana Sahib (present-day Pakistan) in 1469. His teachings on equality, service to humanity, and faith in a single God transcended religious boundaries and continued an inspiration of hope for millions of people worldwide. One of the most important holidays for Sikhs is Gurpurab, which commemorates his birth and is observed with prayers, processions, and community service.
The Prime Minister said, considering Guru Nanak’s timeless teaching of societal harmony and peace, “May it also motivate us to serve society and make our planet better.”
