Wayanad By-election: Voting for the by-election on Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala has started at 7 am. It will continue till 5 pm. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi is starting her political career from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. Priyanka is contesting against Navya Haridas from BJP and Satyan Mokeri from the left alliance LDF. However, there is talk of a direct contest between Priyanka Gandhi and BJP’s Navya Haridas.
Voting is also being held for the by-election on Wayanad Lok Sabha seat because Rahul Gandhi left this seat and chose Rae Bareli seat. Rahul had contested the election from two seats, Rae Bareli and Wayanad, and won both.
Wayanad’s seat is considered the stronghold of the United Democratic Front (UDF). In 2019, Rahul Gandhi reached Parliament from Wayanad. In 2024, Rahul won both Wayanad and Rae Bareli. After this, he resigned from Wayanad. Now, Congress wants to maintain dominance in the by-election as well.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s dream of entering active parliamentary politics will come true or not, will be decided by the voters of Wayanad in the by-election today. Due to Rahul Gandhi leaving the Wayanad seat, about 14 lakh voters will decide the fate of 16 candidates in the by-election being held here. Also, by-election will be held on Chelakkara assembly seat in Kerala
Meanwhile, in Jharkhand Assembly Elections Phase-I voting, the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has fielded 23 candidates, its allies Congress 17 and Lalu Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal five. The Opposition BJP has fielded 36 candidates,, Janata Dal United (JDU) two and Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party seven candidates.
