Delhi Police have recently cracked a vital interstate gun racket case within a month and arrested as many as 18 people associated with the racket.
The “Eagle” operation was thus launched to neutralize those smugglers who supply firearms to the capital city of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). These arrests were carried out against the backdrop of increasing incidence of gun crime in the national capital, and the police crackdown was aimed at arresting those involved in the circulation of prohibited arms, which has led to this spurt in criminal activities.
It was set into operation following the arrest of two men in Ghazipur, identified as Arshad and Mohammad Suleman. Which include one rifle, three live bullets, three knives and a smuggled Hyundai i20 car from the culprits.
During interrogation, Arshad and Suleman shared that they had purchased a weapon from a person known as Anuj, aka Moni, who operates from Patparganj. In line with this clue, the police arrested Moni, which led them to arrest other individuals and uncover a huge gun-running syndicate in operation in the Delhi NCR area.
Operation Eagle launched in October was successful, police nabbed different types of weapons such as eight country made pistols, four semi- pistols, one country made rifle and three knives along with 33 live bullets. Various PCR were raised, and several operations were conducted on various regions, thus arresting 16 more members of the “Madan gang”. The alleged leader of the gang, Madan, was arrested from Dasna Jail, Ghaziabad, where he was carrying out his illegal activities as he was booked there also.
The busts are a major hit to the guns and ammunition suppliers around the region, with the police saying it remains focused on dismantling the gun menace and organized crime in Delhi.
