Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme, in its tenth year of implementation, was an important measure to pay back respect to military veterans.
While posting on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister stated that the OROP scheme, which was a pre-poll BJP promise of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, is a tribute to the valor, commitment, and sacrifices made by our Veterans and Ex-service personnel who have dedicated their lives for the protection of the Country.
PM Modi further said that the scheme symbolizes the country’s acknowledgment of the efforts that are needed to safeguard the country. He further stated that the government is determined to further bolster the Indian armed forces as well as look after the interest of all those who have devoted their lives to the country.
One of the most popular of these policies was the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme, which the first term of the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government had finally delivered on after years of promises by previous governments. The implementation of the scheme was determined on the 7th of November, 2015, with some of the effects from the implementations applied from the first of July 2014. The decision was to bring parity in pension for those retiring at the same rank of service and having completed the same number of service years but at different times.
It was hailed as a major verdict that aimed at trying to resolve the long-standing complaints of military veterans who demanded pension parity. The OROP scheme has been embraced over the years as a sign that the government has not forgotten the deserving heroes of the country, and the fact that it has taken a decade calls for celebration for the continuity of the policy of honoring the heroes of the nation.
