Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was quoted during her campaign in the Assembly constituency of Sulthan Bathery, Wayanad, on Monday lambasted the BJP for allegedly politicizing accidents that took the lives of over 200 people in separate landslides which hit Wayanad district in southern Kerala in July.
In a news agency report, Vadra charged the BJP with politicizing the tragedy that devastated the people to the extremity by using it as a vociferous political tool.
Addressing a poll meeting in Kenichira, Priyanka Gandhi asked the people whether such politics was good enough for this country. “Not even a disaster that caused immense pain to people was non-politicize by the BJP. And this is where we start today. We are in a position that one has to consider your country, your interests and the kind of politics you would like to have in our nation,” she said.
Vadra also alleged that the Central government had not adequately responded to families in Wayanad scarred by landslides. With the vow to fight for Wayanad on this matter when given the mantle to represent them in Parliament, she promised to vociferously seek justice on this matter and for the people of Wayanad. “If you will elect me to go to Parliament, I shall convince you that there is no one who will work harder for you than me. I will tell people what is happening to you. I will take up the matter and remain active and pressurize both the state and the central governments. By your side, you will have a tough fighter who wouldn’t look the other way when your needs are on the table,” Vadra said of the commitment the community would get from her.
Also, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that the BJP is creating a section of people by polarizing them over issues. They said that, according to the Rahul Gandhi-led Congress party, the BJP indulges in ‘hatred, anger, polarisation and destruction’ to distract from issues that matter to the common man or woman, such as inflation and unemployment.
