Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde slammed the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Arvind Sawant on Saturday for the alleged indecent remarks against Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC.

Shinde also stated that if Balasaheb Thackeray was alive today, he would have used forceful tones against Sawant, stating “He would have shut the mouth of the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader.”

The comments came in response to Sawant’s remarks about Shaina NC, which Shinde described as “unfortunate.” He explained that it is very wrong to speak ill of women and made it clear that “They should get abused because that is awful.” Shinde continued accusing the Shiv Sena (UBT) of pretending to follow Balasaheb Thackeray principles and, at the same time, doing the opposite.

But if Balasaheb was here and a Shiv Sainik had done this, he would have applied force to the face. They did that which represents their real self,” Shinde said. He also remembered some other cases where the MVA (Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi) had set the women from the Shiv Sena group right and also threatened that the upcoming elections would be the best chance for women to teach a lesson to those who do not respect them.

In the past, Shinde invited the “sisters of Maharashtra” to teach Sawant his place in the political arena and assured them that they would ensure he returned to the polling booth in the next polls. He said again, “All the sisters of Maharashtra will teach a lesson to those who insulted another sister of theirs.”

Shinde’s statements reflect a new conflict in Maharashtra politics as both wings of the Shiv Sena, with an eye on forthcoming election dynamics, are trying to politicise the issues of Respect & Dignity for women in politics.
