National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has downplayed the latest operation by the Indian Army in Akhnoor, asserting that such a cross-LoC operation is not a rarity in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement to a news agency, Abdullah said, “Encounters keep taking place; there is nothing new in this. Terrorists continue to arrive, and we continue to eliminate them.” His comments came after an anti-terror operation in which three terrorists were eliminated after an attack on an army convoy on October 28. This operation was under the operation Asan that began following the terrorist attack in the Battal area.

Security forces said it actualized that the terrorists opened fire on an Army ambulance, provoking an instant and concerted reaction. In the blink of an eye, the area was secured, and the Jammu and Kashmir police conducted a thorough search in collaboration with Indian security forces. The operation was launched by the White Knight Corps of the Indian Army, which was tracking the situation.

According to the official statement issued by the White Knight Corps, there was constant tailing throughout the night, and when more sustained contact opened up, one of the cars turned to get blocked in. The released statement said that this morning, an intense firefight occurred and reaffirmed that the side of justice was victorious because they had strategic planning and execution.

But it also had a deathly overtone under which one of the charge dog- Phantom, a Belgian Malinois of the Indian Army, died in action. Phantom is the call sign of Grain, who was born on May 25, 2020, joined the Army in August 2022, and actively supported the security forces in operations.

Regrettably, he received the ultimate award of valor while charging towards enemy lines in the Sindabandi front to further showcase the great threats the human and canine troops of the armed forces are encountering in their daily fight against terrorism.
