Bilaspur: Cyber Police has arrested four GRP constables accused of helping some local youths smuggle cannabis through a member of its personnel.
Two of the constables are behind bars, and the other two are in police remand in connection to the probe. The event dates back to October 24th when officers from GRP railway station arrested Yogesh Sondhiya of Jabalpur carrying 20 kgs of cannabis while purchasing Rohit Dwivedi of Chitrakoot.
The case file was later forwarded to the Bilaspur SP’s office for further investigation of the case. Following the instructions of SP Rajneesh Singh, Cyber Police went for further investigation into the distributed details pertaining to the operation and targeted Yogesh and Rohit to investigate further.
Yogesh, during thorough interrogation, disclosed that he had been living in a house in the city for the last year and, under the influence of four constables of GRP, namely Laxman Gayin, Saurabh Nagvanshi, Santosh Rathore and Mannu Prajapati, started providing cannabis from Odisha. The informer Yogesh said that the constables shielded him and helped sell the prohibited substance at the railway station. The profits were also given to the constables. At the time when the police arrested Rohit, he had gone to him to purchase cannabis.
According to the statements of Yogesh and Rohit, the four constables were booked under the NDPS Act. They were produced in court, and the police sought a warrant for the continued detention of two of the constables. As such, the court permitted a one-day police remand for Santosh Rathore and Laxman Gayin; Saurabh Nagvanshi and Mannu Prajapati were sent to jail on remand.
This case gives information about the improper use of authority in the police sector. Some of these constables, prior to the investigations, were said to have used their positions to allow the commission of crimes, thus eradicating the integrity of the positions and putting the lives of the citizens in danger. The ongoing investigation seeks to establish the exact level of complicity that the two companies have in the acts of vice.
