Indore: Before the Diwali festival, the Vijaynagar area of Indore, which is regarded as the financial center of the region, was checked for firecracker shops 85 shops were checked thoroughly.
The inspection was carried out by SDM Rakesh Mohan Tripathi, ACP Aditya Patle, and Deputy Tehsildar Pooja Singh Chauhan. This was done to check those people who were dealing in firecrackers to abide by basic safety and licensing laws.
Five shop owners were absent from the inspected shops at their licensed business premises, and officials had served notices to such vendors. The authorities also threatened to withdraw licenses from these shops if satisfactory responses would not be given.
Further, interview findings revealed that four shops had no fire extinguishers, though the shops dealt with materials that easily caught fire. Prompt measures were followed by planning to provide these shops with firefighting appliances in order to reduce exposure to fire risks during this busy festive season.
Regarding complaints of road infringement, those who had constructed structures within pedestrian tracks had to demolish such structures to provide for passageways and pedestrian bridges. In addition, for the purpose of fire safety, supplies from tanker trucks were made to refill drums with water at every shop, and directions were provided for sandbags, etc. Such measures are taken with the intention of being ready in case there are any fires in the building so that rapid response is provided.
The inspection team also reviewed other fire safety practices in each shop and pointed out the need to adhere to the practices to minimize risks. Such preventive actions by the local government in Indore raise the bar when it comes to preventing catastrophes, as Diwali is a time when fire risks are on the rise thanks to firecrackers.
The extensive action of the SDM, ACP, and Tehsildar shows their intention to avoid negligence and wish to foster a safe business environment and the interest of the community during the festive season.
