The festival of lights is right around the corner. Diwali, also known as Deepawali, is the time of the festive season when we deep clean our homes, gear up to deck every surface with flowers, lights and rangolis, and buy new clothes for attending parties and gatherings with loved ones.
As the preparations begin, some are of the view that it falls on October 31 this year, some are of the view that Lakshmi Puja will be performed on November 1. To elevate the confusion and give clarity, here’s a look at what Drik Panchang and astrologers have to say. Read on to learn the correct date, puja timings, and traditions.
When Is Diwali
As per Drik Panchang, Diwali is set to be celebrated on Thursday (October 31). Lakshmi Puja will also take place on the same day, as the Amavasya moon will be visible on that evening of October 31.
There is uncertainty over Diwali 2024 as Amavasya Tithi, which this year spans both October 31 and November 1. Drik Panchang confirms that the festival will be observed on October 31. As the Amavasya moon is expected to be visible that evening, Lakshmi Puja is scheduled for October 31 as well.
Many institutions, including schools and banks, are planning to recognise holidays on both October 31 and November 1.
