Bhopal: In Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, the Food Department has also acted drastically during the onset of the festive season to prevent the circulation of low-quality food products.

The department’s team recaptured 16 quintals of the non-registered mawa (milk solids) from the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT). In the same mawa, there were unconfirmed reports that it was brought to Bhopal from Gwalior via bus, and it was supposed to be taken to different parts of Bhopal.

Thus, to maintain a high level of safety for festive and other similar goods, the Food Safety Department intensifies the frequency of inspections across the region. When at the ISBT, the department’s team performed some inspections on several passenger buses from various areas.

In this check, 16 quintals of mawa, which was taken from Gwalior, were seized early in the morning. The local authorities believe that it was meant for the markets within the region to make sells during festive seasons, during which the markets were likely to flood the markets with substandard foods and products.

The mawa that was seized has been sampled, and the samples will be subjected to laboratory analysis to establish their quality to the consumer as well as their safety. Food safety officials have reported that milk and its products, particularly during festivals, are likely to be adulterated and hence have increased its scrutiny in India.

As per the announcement of the officials, one needs a license to transport food products in bulk. Still, in front of the team, it could not be identified that the mawa transport was not licensed and, therefore, the source and quality of the drug were questionable. Similarly, owners of the seized mawa have not come forward to claim their property up to date.

If there will be no volunteer within the next 24 hours, the Food Department will go through with the disposal of the said product, legal processes and necessary measures to ensure that the product, which may be hazardous to the health of consumers, will not reach the market. It is evident that the measure taken by the Food Department is responsive to its call to duty to ensure food safety during the festive season.
