The Congress President, Mallikarjun Kharge, has come down heavily on the BJP-led central government on Friday over its failure to rein in the inflation in Maharashtra.
Pointing to a sharp rise in the price of a simple vegetarian thali meal, Kharge charged the BJP’s ‘Triple Engine Government,’ which he alleged came through the ‘Back Door’, of snatching a meal from the needy people.
Tweeting on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Kharge said, “The inflation unleashed by the BJP has affected the people of the country, including the people of Maharashtra, so badly that to defeat it, BJP has to be out of power! The important thing that makes the general public feel the increase is that the basic item, the thali, costs 52% more than the preceding year.”
He also expanded that all essential vegetables have sharply increased in price over one year, where tomatoes have been hiked to 247% and potatoes to 180%. The price of garlic has increased by 128%, and for all vegetables, on average, the price has increased by 89%. Some other basic necessities, such as edible oil, salt and flour, have also risen by up to 18 percent. In an online press conference, Kharge explained that the price hike expressed a general struggle in the economy, which he said the ruling BJP brought on the people of Maharashtra.
“The BJP has throttled the dreams of the people of Maharashtra by spreading the spider web of inflation,” Kharge averred to indicate that the circumstances in the state are perfect enough to give the rival political formation a jolt. He said this time, Maharashtra has decided to open all its doors to the second option other than the BJP or its supporting parties.
Regarding the charges made by Kharge, BJP’s spokesman Pradeep Bhandari ridiculed such statements, saying Congress was frustrated after tasting defeat in the Haryana assembly elections. They criticized, he said the Congress is preaching such criticisms.
