Mumbai: Producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor have been summoned by the Mumbai Police. The police have called both of them to the police station for questioning in the POCSO case. The police have directed them to appear on Thursday, October 24.
Actually the whole matter is about showing obscene scenes of minor girls in the web series ‘Gandii Baat’. Three days ago, a case was registered against Ekta and her mother Shobha Kapoor in Mumbai under the POCSO Act. Now the Mumbai Police has summoned the mother and daughter for questioning.
The controversy is tied to season 6 of Gandii Baat, which aired on the OTT platform of ALT Balaji. The complaint states that the series involves explicit scenes involving minor girls. The show, which streamed between February and April 2021, has removed the controversial episode from the platform. According to the Mumbai police, a case has been registered against Balaji under section 295-A of the IPC, the IT Act, and sections 13 and 15 of the POCSO Act.
The case was filed last week following a court order, with a notice issued to the Kapoors for their involvement. In response, ALT Digital Media, the production company behind the series, released a statement clarifying their stance. The company asserted that they are fully compliant with all relevant laws, including the POCSO Act, and that any claims about involving minors are entirely false.
The statement also clarified that Ekta and Shobha Kapoor are not involved in the daily operations of the company, including content creation, which is handled by separate teams. ALT Digital Media expressed confidence in the judicial process and confirmed their cooperation with the investigation, refraining from further comments as the matter is sub-judice.
