Jabalpur: At least 15 people have been reported injured in a major blast that occurred at the Central Security Institute Ordnance Factory in Khamaria Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, on Tuesday. The factory is involved in the production of bombs and explosives. Authorities said that at least two of the wounded are in serious condition and require immediate medical intervention. Some of the victims were ferried to a neighboring private hospital for treatment since most of them were badly injured.

The explosion took place in the factory’s refilling subdivision, which is actually the section where the bomb is being filled. Media sources suggest that the explosion might have occurred when a hydraulic system in building 200 of the F-6 section of the factory failed. Those who witnessed the disaster indicated that the force of the explosion could be heard up to five kilometers, and people compared this feeling with an earthquake.

When the related emergency services got there, the undertakings to perform relief operations were launched immediately. Fire brigades and ambulances were sent to help those affected and ensure nothing was taken from the crime scene. As much as there is an instant response to the explosion, there are worries as one of the workers could be missing and could be trapped under the rubble.

Another agency has said that out of the total fifteen people who were injured, two persons have died from their wounds but the factory owners have not admitted any casualty yet. Efforts are already underway to try to establish what caused the explosion, and the first appraisal of the true scale of destruction has been made.

This has made local people and authorities concerned about safety, thus leading to reconsideration of safety measures being taken at the facility. As the situation unfolds, the community is still waiting for further information on the fate of the missing worker and the general consequences of this sad incident.
