Vettaiyan, the Rajinikanth movie, was unable to perform well, shooting up its second-weekend collections after a poor first week at the box office. The film collected approximately Rs 12.1 crore net in India on the second weekend and had a total 11-day collection of Rs 134.25 crore net, according to a website tracking trade figures. Still, many expected that Vettaiyan would have come up to the mark, which according to many, would have crossed Rs 150 crore nett by now.

Vettaiyan, an investigative drama, was released on the Dussehra weekend when it was believed the business would be good; the movie is directed by TJ Gnanavel. The movie did good business on the first day, getting Rs 31 crore net but the ticket sales dropped as days passed by. In the first week of its run, the movie collected Rs 122.15 crore net. In the second weekend, Vettaiyan grossed Rs 5 crore – a situation that puts the film at a decisive juncture in Box office performance. Since the second week, it has emerged as a question mark on the further time limit to cross Rs 150 crore within the domestic market.

Generally, Rajinikanth’s films hit the box office liner. Nonetheless, Vettaiyan endured mediocre reviews from critics and the public as well. Nevertheless, the strong opening was not accompanied by a steady increase in sales, and shortly after the launch of the film, it began to receive average sales.

Meanwhile, the makers of Vettaiyan are gearing up to come up with a prequel to the movie. In a recent media interaction over the Zoom call, director TJ Gnanavel expressed his desire to come up with an origin story film based on Anthony’s character. The much-anticipated film includes popular names such as Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, and Rana Daggubati, amongst others. This might not be the last of what fans can get from the Vettaiyan universe, with the concept of a prequel on the way.
