Vikram Misri, the Foreign Secretary of India, said that there has been positive news regarding the ways in which Indian and Chinese patrols can patrol LAC following a series of talks between officials from the two countries. This has come about following previous meetings held over the last few weeks observing the current relationship between the two bordering nations.

In a recent press briefing, Misri focused on the importance of this accord, stressing the fact that ‘The issues being discussed we now have an agreement with China on’. He said he believes that this is a significant stepping stone towards disengagement at the border crossing because this is a significant step that could ease tensions that have been rising since 2020.

Misri explained that the agreement concerning the conduct of patrol arrangements was the result of prolonged deliberations, which took several weeks. He said, “In view of the outcomes of the discussions held so far, there is consensus on patrolling modalities of the line of actual control in the India-China border area. This is resulting in disengagement and ultimately a resolution of the problems that emerged in such sectors in 2020.”

Tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) between India and China, which started early last year up to the present, have resulted in increased militarization and frequent skirmishes at several points. Both nations have tried to avoid escalating the situation and have opted for a peaceful talk. This agreement is seen as an attempt to bring back a smooth existence in the region.

This agreement is expected to relieve the relations and establish trust in the border concerns of the two countries so as to enhance border control. Although both countries are yet to finalize the issues that affect their bilateral relation, this agreement is progress in the lengthy negotiation process of the India and Chinese border.
