Lahore: The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, which killed a doctor and six migrant workers on Sunday, sources told India Today TV.
TRF chief Sheikh Sajjad Gul is the mastermind of the attack and the group’s local module, at his behest, carried out the attack targeting Kashmiris and non-Kashmiris together for the first time, sources said.
A doctor and six construction workers were killed when terrorists opened fire at a construction site at Gagangir in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, official sources said Sunday. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah called the attack on non-local labourers “dastardly and cowardly”.
“Praying that the injured make a full recovery as the more seriously injured are being referred to SKIMS, Srinagar,” Mr Abdullah posted on X.
Earlier on Sunday, the Indian Army declared that there is a confrontation between security forces and terrorists along the Line of Control (LOC) in the Jammu and Kashmir district of Baramulla.
The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army announced the launch of a joint anti-infiltration operation in the region in a post on X. “Based on intelligence inputs regarding a likely infiltration bid, a joint anti-infiltration Operation was launched by #Indian Army & Jammu Kashmir Police along LOC in the general area of Uri, Baramulla. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Vigilant troops responded with effective fire. Operation is in progress,” the Chinar Corps said.
