A Mumbai to Delhi IndiGo flight was redirected to Ahmedabad on Tuesday night after some crew members received a bomb threat that was later discovered to be a fake. The event entailed flight 6E 651, which had nearly 200 passengers and crew on board. After successfully touching down in Ahmedabad, every person on the craft was evacuated, and no misfortune occurred. When security agencies searched for the items, none were found on the aircraft after conducting a thorough check.

The threat was made through a tweet by an unknown person soon after the plane had flown from Mumbai. Upon getting the alert, the Mumbai Air Traffic Control (ATC) informed the pilots, who preferred an emergency landing at the nearest available place, which is Ahmedabad Airport. After landing, the aircraft was surrounded and even though security forces raided the inside of the plane and held dozens of people on board for long hours, investigators say that the aircraft was checked for anyone who might have posed a threat all through the night as a measure of security.

This one is the twelfth threat in relation to specific flights in the past two days, and experts are worried that more and more such hoaxes are being made. On Wednesday, an Akasa Air flight that was en route from New Delhi to Bengaluru had to turn back to New Delhi as that flight also received a bomb threat. Three international flights each from Mumbai had similar threats earlier this week, causing diversions and considerable delays.

IndiGo, which operates the flight, said that the plane was diverted to Ahmedabad because of a ‘security related alert,’ and insisted that its SOPS stood scrupulously observed during the unpleasant period. The airline has urged passengers to contact the airline to report such incidents, apologised to passengers who might have been affected, and reiterated its commitment to the safety of customers and its crews.

Given the rising cases of false bomb alarms worldwide, much pressure is being put on security forces to tighten up the security measures in place and guarantee the safety of the growing airline industry.
