Jharkhand is likely to follow a two-phase voting process as declared by the chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar on Tuesday, where the first phase has been scheduled for November 13 and the second phase for November 20. The counting of the votes will take place on November 23. These elections are important for the future of the governance of the state since, by the end of this term, the current assembly of Jharkhand will be dissolved on 5th January 2025.
The Election Commission has DEC marked the date for Jharkhand and Maharashtra, who will vote in the same phase, namely November 20.
The ruling party, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) of the current CM Hemant Soren, will fight the polls with the Congress as its alliance partner. The Congress declared earlier today that the alliance shall continue for the upcoming polls, and talks for seat-sharing are being held. Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Keshav Mahto also remained optimistic about the prospects of this alliance. “We will going to contest the elections with our alliance partners in the state. The exact apportionment of seats is yet to be decided fairly soon.” Mahto said: “We are confident we will win, so the development work that we have done here will help us.”
The JMM also sounded confident and claimed that its partnership with the Congress party would enable the party to regain power. On the other hand, the BJP is gearing up for a major battle and has been harsh on the incumbent JMM government. BJP leader Pratul Shah Deo criticized the ruling party for corruption, misrule, and bad governance, adding that the Hemant Soren government would be brought to its electoral death. Hemant Soren will be the last king of the Soren dynasty, said Shah Deo, adding that the BJP anticipates a coup over the ruling alliance.
This election campaign heralds Jharkhand politics into a crucial and most challenging phase of its political journey.
