Dussehra celebrations broke out across India on Saturday as the Navratri and Durga Puja festivities came to an end. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a Dussehra program organized by the Shri Dharmik Leela Committee in Delhi. Meanwhile, poll-bound Maharashtra will see a two rival factions of the Shiv Sena lead separate Dussehra rallies.
Special Protection Group was deployed to oversee the event with the Delhi Police to maintain law and order during Dussehra celebrations.
“I hope that our brothers and sisters who have left from here come back home. Now the time has come, they should return to their homes. We do not think only about Kashmiri Pandits, but we also think about the people of Jammu, we should treat them well, they should also feel that the National Conference government is not their enemy. We are Indians and we want to take everyone along,” he said.
President Murmu and PM Modi also extended wishes on the occasion of Vijyadashmi. In a social media post, President Murmu wrote: “On the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja, I extend my warm greetings and best wishes to all Indians living in India and abroad.”
General Secretary of Shri Dharmik Leela Committee, Dheeraj Dhar Gupta had said that both the President and the Prime Minister would be attending the Dussehra event and all three effigies will be burnt.
The organisers claimed that it took four months to prepare and install 211 feet high Ravan effigy in Sector 10 of Dwarka, which is said to be the tallest effigy in India.
