Hyderabad: On Friday, a protest was held in Hyderabad when unknown vandals attacked a Pandal where Goddess Durga was being celebrated by partially damaging the idol. It happened at Nampally Exhibition Grounds coming under the station house officer Begum Bazar A.P, making locals and devotees anxious.
A police report by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Abids) A. Chandrasekhar stated that in the early hours of Friday, it was noticed that one of the idol’s hands was broken. “We have started investigating the matter, and our personnel are going through the surveillance videos from the scene to find the miscreants,” he said.
The idol was later fixed, and the worship continued at the pandal. However, the act of writing instigated a group of followers who protested the act by painting over it. They also held a protest that saw them lock the main road in Nampally. Some of them protested, shouting something like justice, demanding that the perpetrators be punished and that more security provisions be made in order to prevent such attacks in churches.
The BJP’s Madhavi Latha visited the location and called for unity, stressing that it’s a Hindu organization that needs to continue fighting for the offense against Hindu Gods & establishments. “It is time for all Hindus to retaliate for whatever vandalism is happening”, she said. “They may start harboring the belief that they can destroy us, but things like that only draw us closer together. I issue a warning: we will not remain silent.”
The police of Begum Bazar have lodged an FIR, and they are working to nab the culprits who were involved in the destruction. It remains a sensitive issue, and the authorities are watching the events unfold to avoid aggravation of the problem. Several leaders are calling for the end of hostilities while calling for the perpetrators of the destruction to be brought to book.
