Mahasamund: Four juveniles have escaped from the government-aided observation home at Baronda Market. They also caught sight of two inhabitants of the city – a city guard and an attendant – and threw stones at them; both were wounded. He then grabbed the keys, which were dropped, opened the gate, and they fled. The personnel that were injured have been evacuated to Raipur for treatment.
It was found out that the four juveniles who escaped were being detained at the observation home for various offences. Two were charged with theft, one with rape, and the last one with trafficking in marijuana. The juveniles come from different regions: two are from the Garia band, one from Baloda Bazar, and one from Saraipali-Mahasamund.
Suspecting the case, the officials of the observation home, without hesitation, reported the escape to the local police of Kotwali station. The police have since followed the fleeing juveniles and have mounted a search operation to arrest the fleeing youths.
This case is just an example of many such cases that happen in societies. This is after other several other juveniles have been noted to have escaped from the same observation home before. Again and again, such an event request provokes questions about the safety measures that have been put in place in the facility.
Lately, authorities have been under pressure to increase the security measures in the observation home to contain recurrences and, more so, for the safety of the staff. These are supposed to be homes for reforming and reintroducing juveniles in conflict with the law into society, but such recurrent violations suggest existing security loopholes that call for a solution.
The police are pursuing different lines of inquiry in the hunt for the juveniles and expect to arrest them shortly. On the other hand, the local community has been put on notice in order to participate in reporting any suspicious act.
