An incident has been reported by various local news agencies indicating that at least 25 students from a Thai school lost their lives when a bus in which 44 children were traveling caught fire. The heartbreaking accident occurred on Phahon Yothin Road near the Zeer Rangsit shopping mall in Khu Khot around 12:30 PM local time. The bus was carrying students of Uthai Thani province, about 250 kilometers or 155 miles north of Bangkok, on an educational trip. Although the trip’s final location is unrevealed, it should have been a beneficial exercise for the students participating in it.
Six teachers were also on board the passengers, and according to preliminary information, it emerged that more people died, and this may be confirmed as more details emerge. Complicating factors of the case include the police and fire investigators, who are yet to establish what led to the fire outbreak at this time. Police have not hastened to give details of how many people died or were injured. Still, it has come out clear that out of the affected students, 16 were admitted to hospital, and 3 teachers with severe injuries also received hospital attention.
Regarding this catastrophe, Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit said that preliminary measures had been taken to find out the conditions that contributed to such a terrible fire. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said that while this unfortunate event resulted in a loss of life, he stands with the families of the victims.
