The Israeli military pounded Gaza with airstrikes saying it was targeting the homes and infrastructure of the Palestinian military group Hamas. As the Israel-Palestine conflict entered its second week, the Hamas-run Gaza Ministry of Health reported 212 deaths and 1,400 injuries. 61 children and 36 women are among the dead, the ministry said.
Meanwhile, Hamas fired 3,000 rockets from Gaza that killed nearly 10 people in Israel, including 2 children declared IDF. Israel also fired shells towards Lebanon in response to rocket launches on Monday. A Lebanese security source claimed Israel fired 22 shells towards Lebanon after it speculated 6 rockets being hurled from south Lebanon.
The United Nations says over 38,000 Palestinians have been displaced in Gaza by Sion airstrikes and more than 2,500 people have been made homeless because their houses were destroyed. Dozens of Israeli jets bombed more than nine miles of Hamas’ tunnel system in Gaza overnight, targeted 14 dwellings and uprooted several medical infrastructures.
US President Joe Biden, in a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, expressed his support for a ceasefire in the fighting between Israeli forces and the Hamas group. “The President expressed his support for a ceasefire and discussed US engagement with Egypt and other partners towards that end. The two leaders agreed that they and their teams would remain in close touch,” the White House statement read.
As the violence continues, calls for a ceasefire have been growing in the international community, with Egypt considered a key interlocutor in dealing with Hamas and negotiating with the Israelis on efforts to achieve a ceasefire.
