Congress party’s senior leader, Rahul Gandhi has given a major political agitation by giving his statement over the next upcoming event of Pran Pratishta of Ram Temple in Ayodha on January 22. On social media, there is a 27-second video clip that has Rahul Gandhi supposedly narrating the event in a very distasteful manner and even described the event as a ‘naach-gaana’ – literally song and dance. He condemned the government for having reduced the holy occasion into a showbiz product instead of being insidious towards neglected sectors of society.
“They called Amitabh Bachchan, Adani, Ambani, and other personalities for the event. Was there any one farmer or laborer? All I saw was a dance happening,” the audience is able to hear Gandhi say in the clip. They say it looks more like the ceremony is being turned into a gimmick and a tool by which the privileged may feast.
The Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, belonging to the right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), condemned Gandhi’s remarks, adding that the latter had little understanding of Hinduism and the latter’s traditions. BJP leader Tirath Singh Rawat responded, “Perhaps Rahul Gandhi has yet to grasp Indian culture.” When he does, he will value these rituals. It can also be seen that the common people were very much into the celebrations.”
That did not stop the outrage, though. BJP’s national spokesperson, Shehzad Poonawalla, criticized Gandhi’s statements as “shameful,” asserting that the Congress leader has a history of manifesting anti-Hindu sentiments. Poonawalla blamed what he referred to as the Congress and its leadership for trying to target Hindu sentiments for vote bank politics.
He continued, “Are such remarks capable of being said about any other religion and its holidays? The Congress headed by Rahul Gandhi and his family have been mocking the existence of Ram Mandir, doubting the character of Ram and even inventing the term Hindu terror. Now, he’s terming the Ram Mandir celebration as ‘naach-gaana.’ It’s shameful.”
