IMD warned about heavy rain on Saturday and the possibility of ‘flash floods’ in Bihar. The flash floods alert has ensured that the Bihar Disaster Management Department is on the lookout and has followed preventive measures with regard to the forecast. The Bihar Water Resources Department has particularly announced risk to people living close to the Kosi and Gandak rivers, which flooded due to the continuous rain in the past few days.
It was an informed report that many rivers in the state are rising due to what officials termed as persistent rainfall. In its bulletin issued last Friday, numerous districts are expected to receive heavy rainfall including West and East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Patna, Jehanabad, Madhubani and Bhojpur.
Apart from Bihar, the weather department has predicted below-extreme rains for the current Saturday at Saurashtra and Kutch, the Gujarat area, East U.P., Sub-Himalayan W.B. & Bihar. The Saryu River water of Ayodhya is also rising because of the continuous rain for the past few days. Aman Rai Singh, an office assistant at the Central Water Commission, Ayodhya, said, “The water level has been rising at a pace of 3 cm each hr from this morning. This goes up because it has continued to rain, and we are following up keenly on this.”
Also, waves from high tide have been registered at Marine Drive in Mumbai, and the weather agency has been forced to put out a high tide warning for the city since the rains persist. The residents and officials are advised to be on high alert for probable floods and other inconveniences that may be caused by the bad weather.
