A four-hour purification ritual was conducted at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam shrine to appease Lord Venkateswara Swamy amid allegations of mixing animal fats in Tirupati laddus. The ritual was aimed at propitiating Lord Venkateswara Swamy from the alleged sacrilegious practices such as mixing animal fats in making Tirupati laddus and others.

The quality of laddus at the Tirupati temple came under national spotlight after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu recently claimed that substandard ingredients and animal fats were used in making the laddus under the previous YSRCP government. YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy has denied all charges.

Meanwhile, India’s food safety regulator has also issued a show-cause notice to a Tamil Nadu firm for allegedly providing substandard ghee to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam temple authority.

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which manages the revered Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Tirumala, has announced the formation of a sensory panel to assess the quality of food offerings, following a controversy over the alleged adulteration of ingredients used in the temple’s famous laddu prasadam. The panel will evaluate food samples based on aroma, taste, and texture, said TTD Executive Officer J. Shyamala Rao during a press briefing on Sunday.

Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by an officer of Inspector General rank or higher, to probe irregularities in the procurement of ghee and other matters related to temple operations.
