Bhubaneshwar: Chilling details have emerged of the ordeal faced by an Army officer and his fiancée, who was allegedly sexually assaulted at Bhubaneswar’s Bharatpur police station. The incident happened when they had gone to lodge a complaint against miscreants who had waylaid them when they were returning home in Bhubaneswar on September 14.

The woman, who was also arrested by the police, was granted bail by the Orissa High Court on Thursday considering the gravity of the allegations. Narrating her harrowing experience to the media, the woman said she was repeatedly kicked on her chest before a police inspector assaulted and also flashed her.

Former Odisha chief minister and Biju Janata Dal president Naveen Patnaik on Friday demanded a court-monitored SIT probe and a judicial inquiry into the alleged sexual harassment of an Indian Army officer’s fiancée in police custody.

Earlier on September 12, 2024, two young army officers were beaten by unidentified men and one out of the two women friends was raped in a picnic spot in Madhya Pradesh.

Badgonda police station in-charge Lokendra Singh Hirore said the officers aged 23 and 24 were undergoing Young Officers (YO) course at the Infantry School in Mhow cantonment town. They were hanging out with their two female friends. At around 2 AM on Wednesday, a group of 6-7 people arrived at the picnic spot at Mhow-Mandleshwar road and started beating up one of the officers and a female friend who were sitting in the car.
