CBI investigation has come to the fore that Tala Police of Kolkata failed to arrest or nab the alleged culprit Sanjay Roy and delay in collection of vital evidence in the rape and murder of one trainee doctor of RG Kar Medical College Hospital way back on August 10. As CBI officials said, Roy’s clothes and other belongings, which might have been used as good evidence, were seized two days after his involvement in the crime came to light, and the CCTV footage, which reveals him entering the hospital’s seminar hall, the place of crime, was not recovered.

A trainee doctor was attacked in her sleep in the seminar hall they had been provided to live in. Sanjay Roy, a suspect whose image was captured in the video going into the room, was taken into police custody the next morning. However, the police’s delay in taking his property has attracted negligence on their side of the police force. The legal officials in CBI criticized Tala Police for what they consider an ‘’unnecessary delay’’ when collecting evidence, thus causing vulnerability to the investigation.

On 14th August, after five days of the crime, CBI took over the case. Since then, the naval has spread, and the former principal of RG Kar Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, and Tala Police station in-charge, Abhijit Mondal, have been arrested. Both have been charged with interfering with material evidence. From the CBI sources, it was learnt that while Ghosh and Mondal were evasive during the interrogation debates, there seemed to be a bigger conspiracy. Both are accused of having ‘malafide intentions’ and trying to upset the processes, which, if done optimally, would have harmed the case.

The CBI is now probing into another aspect of whether there was a criminal conspiracy between Roy, Ghosh and Mondal. In the course of conducting the investigation, law enforcement agents are analyzing phone records in hopes of discovering collusion between the three in this Kolkata case. Besides, they have to show the suspects CCTV footage recorded in the police station, crime scene, and the medical college. The agency also talked about the fact that the victim’s body was cremated following the local tradition, but that was done in a hurry.
