Speaking in Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Rahul Gandhi aligns himself with forces trying to break the country and makes anti-national statements. Shah claimed that Rahul Gandhi has a malicious tendency to divide the country, adding: “whether it is supporting the JKNC’s anti-national and anti-reservation politics in Jammu and Kashmir or making anti-India statement in foreign countries or siding with the National Conference during the Indian general and assembly elections, Rahul Gandhi has been a threat to the Indian security and has caused public outrage.”
Shah remarked on such things as the protests of Gandhi that show how Congress was fomenting ethnic, regional, and linguistic polarizations. He said, “These abuses clearly reveal Congress’s anti-reservation stand and what thoughts Rahul Gandhi has in favor of abolishing the reservation, he has uttered.”
Claiming the BJP is all-powerful, Shah said: “No one can remove reservations or sell the country’s security while BJP is there.” Gandhi’s remarks would not go unnoticed as he said that India is not safe for Sikhs and does not allow them to practice their religion. At an occasion in Washington, D.C., he spoke to a Sikh viewer and enumerated how they might put on a turban or take a trip to a Gurdwara in India, laying out the problem as a case of a fight for religious liberty.
In response, a member of the Congress Rajya Sabha, Manickam Tagore, stood up for Gandhi, claiming that those who aspire to fight for the national interest and social justice should look at the past of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s actions against such policies. Tagore also highlighted that Gandhi had always been a man of unity and equality, and the BJP has been accused of creating a divide.
