New Delhi: On Sunday, the President of India Droupadi Murmu spoke with deep concern about the critical problem of delayed justice mainly in the context of crimes including sexual assault issues. She argued that these delays result in disillusionment of the publi and growing opinion that the judicial process is insensitive to such serious issues.

Addressing the participants during the valedictory session of the National Conference of District Judiciary at New Delhi, President Droupadi Murmu emphasised on how to effectively get rid of this common Indian Judicial System culture, the ‘habit of adjournments’. She said this “Tariq pe Tariq (date after date)” approach has hugely contributes towards the inefficiency of the administration of justice, loss of public confidence and worsening plight of the common man, especially the rural dweller.

“When court decisions in a heinous crime like rape come after a generation has passed… the common man feels that judicial process is insensitive,” said Murmu pointing to the importance of efficiency of the judiciary in halting the delays that demoralize the public.

Emphasizing on the unpleasant facts that sometimes, rich people in society can go free even when they have committed grave offenses and the consequences of such delay on the society’s perception of justice, the president of India Murmu raised worry. This she said at the conference that was hosted by the Supreme Court of India, where many judicial officers were present.

President Murmu’s request for faster delivery of justice in sexual crime cases is a response to recent barbaric rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor in a government owned hospital in Kolkata. This atrocious act has generated lots of demonstrations in the country making the people of the United States demand change in the judiciary system.

While delivering her speech, President Murmu, who looked rather annoyed with the ongoing state of affairs in her country, boldly stated ‘Enough is enough’ urging India to combat the ‘perversion’ of the crimes committed against women, and the aforementioned ill-considered attitude towards women across the country as objects or being less capable, less intelligent.
