Indian sources reported on Thursday that Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is expected to become the next president of the United Arab Emirates, plans to visit India in early September to advance commercial and political cooperation. During the visit, which will commence on September 8, the Crown Prince will have a sitting with the Prime Minister of India that is Mr. Narendra Modi, and other top officials.

It will primarily be regarding the promotion of mutual cooperation over the nearly coming decades, which is the major trend of Sheikh Khaled’s visit. No summit-level agreement that defines the relationship and the way forward is expected to be signed during this visit, but both are expected to restate their desire to upgrade relations in areas such as trade and defense.

This visit is part of the series of the recent upgrading of bilateral ties between India and the UAE. Since 2015, Prime Minister Modi has visited the UAE seven times, showing his government’s direction in enhancing relations with strategic nations in West Asia. The two nations’ cooperation was further strengthened when in early September, UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, MBZ, paid a state visit to India.

Crown Prince Khaled, who was designated as the heir apparent by his father, President MBZ, in March 2023, has since then concentrated more on issues back at home, with his only foreign travel being to Malaysia in May 2023. The forthcoming visit to India can be noted as another step, as Sheikh Khaled is to take a more active position in the leadership of the UAE.

“The visit is a chance to begin to contemplate the future of this bilateral relationship,” added the source on the visit of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince. “It is very beneficial for India now to have very good relations with UAE, and what this trip will do is make sure that the next generation of the UAE leaders are also friendly towards India and ready to work with India in the future.
