On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin after his trip to Ukraine, where he met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv. This discussion is being made at a time when the world is mostly focused on the raging war between Russia and Ukraine.

On X (Twitter), the Indian Prime Minister recorded a message in which he disclosed his conversation with President Putin. He also said that they talked about ways to build up the relations between India and Russia to further the perspective of Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. Also, they discussed the Ukraine issue while Modi shared his views on the issue as he visited Ukraine recently.

The prime minister’s meeting with Zelenskyy and Putin gives an insight into the diplomatic stance that India is trying to balance the situation of war. In the course of the bilateral talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv, Modi stressed once again that India is not ‘a neutral observer’ in the conflict but is ‘actively on the side of peace’. He again restated the policy approaches that have always been upheld by India and that they would not support the infringement of sovereignty and territorial integrity of other nations as these were cardinal principles of the Indian nation.

During the telephonic conversation, Modi also elaborated to Zelenskyy India’s stand on the issue and said, “Let me assure you and the entire world that India stands for sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, and it remains India’s high priority. ”

This conversation with Putin comes after Modi’s visit to Moscow last month, during which the Indian PM reaffirmed India’s stance for a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
