Shikhar Dhawan, the former Indian opening batsman, signed for the Legends League Cricket on Monday, a few days after he bid adieu to international cricket. The 38-year-old left-handed batsman, who was always famed for his aggressive approach and his relatively great performance all through his career, announced his retirement on Saturday after having the privilege of representing the Indian cricket team in all the formats of the game.
Dhawan’s international career may be over, but he plans to start his new journey in T20 leagues, excluding IPL. For this reason, his decision to join LLC enables him to play the game he loves while rekindling the befriended former teammates as well as other cricketers of his age. “My body is still primed to perform on the pitch, and even though I’m comfortable with my decision, cricket has been an integral part of my existence, and it will always remain within me. I am looking forward to spending time with my cricketing brethren and to always making my fans happy as we forge many new memories together,” Dhawan stated emotionally.
Of course, it has; Dhawan’s journey has been quite extraordinary, to the least. He played 34 Test matches for India, in which he was a lower middle-order batsman, and provided crucial runs on the team’s topmost order. He was featured in 167 ODIs and 68 T20Is for the Indian team. He scored an overall score of 12286 international runs, which made him one of the most successful and reliable openers on the Indian cricket team.
This series will be completed in September, and the Legends League Cricket will be ideal for Dhawan to perform and remain active in the game he loves. Some of the most famous cricketers grace this league, and fans will get a chance to see Dhawan back into straight form as he steps onto the field.
