Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh pointed out that the visit of Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi shows that the Centre is serious about handling the ongoing crisis in Manipur. While addressing a press conference in Imphal, Singh added, “The recent visit of the army chief during this time clearly shows the central government is alive to the problem in Manipur and is anxious to find a solution.”
Last week, various senior army commanders, including Eastern Command and 3 Corps, were with General Dwivedi, who went to Manipur on Friday and Saturday to rehearse the existing situation. This was Dwivedi’s first tour of the state, whereby he was appointed as the Chief of Army Staff on 30th June. Among the parts of the discussion during the visit, people focused on the question of the resumption of peace in the region as soon as possible. Singh further said, “The main purpose of his visit was the discussion and establishment of peace measures at the initial. ”
Chief Minister also said that the talks with the Centre also included the borders of both the states and the problem in neighboring Bangladesh. General Dwivedi gave specific direction to senior officers, particularly those working closely with the Manipur government, to take further actions that will help maintain order in the said area.
Moreover, Singh has spoken to thank the Assam government, especially its Chief Minster, Himanta Biswa Sarma, for addressing the long-standing issues of the neighborhood Manipuri people in the state of Assam. The Assam government recently introduced an amendment bill to make Manipuri an Associate Official Language in four districts: Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi, and Hojai. Singh recognized that progress but did not deny that Manipuri living in Assam had a positive improvement.
At the press conference, he also accused the Congress party of entering into an alliance with the Farooq Abdullah-led National Conference before the Jammu & Kashmir assembly elections.
